Laughing at My Nightmare’s mission as a 501(c)3 nonprofit is to empower individuals living with muscular dystrophy, making it possible for them to realize their dreams. One of our goals is to remove barriers to higher education by providing financial support for adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and scholarship assistance. Through these resources, we aim to motivate individuals to pursue their educational aspirations.

Each year, 1-2 individuals living with muscular dystrophy will be awarded the Laughing at My Nightmare Academic Scholarship to cover all tuition, fees, and course materials to obtain an undergraduate or graduate degree.

The application for Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters will open from March 5, 2024 through April 5, 2024.

General Application Guidelines:

​

• Applicants will be required to complete an online application which will be available through lamn.awardsplatform.com.

• Items required to complete the application: 

  • Proof of household financials which can include a previously filed tax return, proof of SSI or SSDI, etc. ​

  • Proof of muscular dystrophy diagnosis on a doctor's letterhead. 

  • Official letter of acceptance for the applicant from a college or university within the US. Preference will be given to applicants attending public, in-state institutions. Applicants that are applying to attend private, out of state institutions will be considered on a case by case basis.

  • Official transcripts from the applicant's most recently completed educational institution (ie: high school, college, GED, etc.) 

  • Information regarding any other approved financial aid or funding being provided for the applicant in order for them to pursue their education.

  • If applicable, any information regarding assistance the applicant is receiving from Occupational Vocational Rehabilitation (OVR​​) or Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR).
